Consulting is something that we are very passionate about at Blue Hook. We love writing code and creating robust systems for clients, but we are able to have a much larger impact on your business by working with your team at a higher level.

Technical Expertise

Our specialty is working with small to medium sized businesses who are building highly technical teams. A background in software development gives us insight into challenges that these teams tend to face in the following areas:

  • Quality
  • Productivity
  • Growth
  • Communication

We don't have a cookie cutter solution for your needs, but a cost-effective program can easily be tailored to fit your schedule. Please read more about our philosophy below and contact us if you are interested in learning more about our services.

Our Philosophy

The Blue Hook Philosophy is best described by the questions contained within the Startup Quality Survey. The questions themselves were influenced a great deal by the principles of W. Edwards Deming. We want to make his approach to quality accessible for startups who are looking to build sustainable businesses.

All too often, venture-backed companies place an emphasis on short term priorities, and fail to focus on continually improving the product. While hiring a VP of Engineering or CTO may alleviate some of the stress for a technical team, an objective third party who is not exposed to political pressures and incentives within the firm will be able to have the most impact.

"The prevailing style of management must undergo transformation. A system cannot understand itself. The transformation requires a view from outside." - W. Edwards Deming

Return on Investment

It is reasonable for potential clients to wonder whether it is worth it to hire a consultant. What is the cost? The benefit? We can assure you that the cost of a working with us is much lower than hiring even one additional developer. The return is difficult to measure, but that is a lesson in and of itself. Not everything can be quantified.

Developer productivity for instance, is notoriously difficult to quantify. However, talking with the engineers on a team and listening to their perspective is often extremely revealing. They know what the pain points are! Are they able to do work that they are proud of? Can employees give honest feedback to managers? Are users happy? We will help you unlock the potential of your team and develop a system of continuous improvement so that your business can grow.
